We’ve had a lot of fun over the past few years with mini flash projects to write and publish a book in a week.

The first was right after lockdown when the Crossing The Tees Book Festival asked for ideas. We couldn’t resist, had a wonderful session with a bunch of great writers at Middlesbrough Central Reference Library on Monday morning, and launched Flash!Mob: We Hope This Finds You Well on Friday evening of the same week.

The next was an invite to Teesside’s TechNExt Festival in 2023 where Flash!Mob: Into The Future was created.

Our Harvey Duckman Flash!Mob short collections of flash fiction are intended to be fun, creative and spontaneous, and give you a chance to write quickly and share those stories without delay.

Each month, there is a one word or short phrase writing prompt, with a list of What Ifs to inspire the stories to flow. Recent prompts have include: THROUGH THE LETTERBOX, A LINE IN THE SAND, ROLL OF THE DICE, STORM IN A TEACUP… Stories can be 300 to 1k wobbly words, any genre, any style, even creative non-fiction if you like.

Each month the Harvey Duckman Flash!Mob book is published in Kindle format on Amazon.

And every year, the twelve mini collections are published in a bumper paperback book.

Our Harvey Duckman Flash!Mob books are published on a throw-it-in-there and throw-it-out-to-the-world basis.

There is no fee paid to writers and no royalties due upon sales of the books. Submitted stories are not guaranteed to be published and we reserve the right to decline a story on secret grounds. We turn these around very quickly, and stories that are selected to be included in our little Flash!Mob books may be edited simply to fix typos and formatting without those changes being checked with the writer.

These are intended to be fun, creative and spontaneous, and give you a chance to write quickly and share those stories without delay.

You do not need to be a paid subscriber to the Harvey newsletter in order to submit a story to our Flash!Mob collections but it helps. Our prompts are emailed out to subscribers each month and the collections are intended to be a part of this project for the benefit and enjoyment of writers committed to it.

All revenue from sales of our Flash!Mob books and merchandise contribute to the future of this project and its work in continuing to support writers.

Please check out our full submissions guidelines here.

And most of all, happy writing xx
